Welcome
Dear friends, relatives
This site hasn't been updated for a while. The reason is partly due to our involvement in Ethiopia.
Titti and I were invited in 2007 by a colleague of mine, Samuel Assafa who, after his retirement, had moved back to his country of birth. He had settled in Bahir Dar in the north part of the country. Bahir Dar is located at the source of the Nile, Lake Tana. He had an ambition to open an oral and maxillo-facial clinic. The visit led us to start thinking about what we could contribute to. To begin with, we collected medical equipment that we sent to him. Titti looked for possible projects at her university in Kalmar where she worked..
2010 Titti and I whent to Ethiopia, Bahir Dar. Titti worked at the university as a professor in Journalism as part of an exchange project she started with her University. Teachers from Bahir Dar university came to teach at Linnaeus University in Kalmar and teachers from Kalmar went to Bahir Dar.
We have after this time - in longer periods - worked and set up different projects. In 2015 we both were employed on regular basis at Bahir Dar University. Titti at the Faculty of Humanities, Journalism and Communication and Hans at the Faculty of Medicine as Medical Director, responsible for planning the set up and organsiation of the new university hospital. For a long time we rented a house in the center of Bahir Dar.
Recently we have not been able to travel to Ethiopia due to the ongoing unrest. We both are longing to seeing all our acquaintances and friends in Bahir Dar.

About this page
This page is a result of the genealogy I worked on as a newly retired person in 2009 and some years on. It was an exciting period in my life that brought many contacts and an incredible amount of new knowledge about our shared history, primarily on my mother's side, Gunvor Forsslund b. Modig. The site is now more like a reference library.
Above is our common relative and the origin of us all, Maja-Stina Modig born 1815 in Daretorp south of Tidaholm.
She is my grandfather's grandmother

Meeting in Daretorp, Tidaholm Sweden 2011-09-28
Descendents of MARIA KRISTINA (MAJA-STINA) MODIG 1815 - 1897 and LARS ANDERSSON MODIG 1803- 1855 met to explore the places were their ancestors lived and worked. Of special interest were all the places Maja-Stina had to move around in the area because she was poor, as her husband died early. She had 7 children to take care of. Three of them were represented by: Neil Blomberg (Anders Johan), Hans Forsslund (Carl), and Per Elzén (Gustava).
Daretorp home-coming-day august 6, 2011
Daretorp is the parish where our ancestors lived for at least 250 years
I was invited to participate and display an exhibition on our "tribe" mother Maria Kristina Modig localy called Mockle-Maje-Stine.
Daretorp
My (Hans Forsslund's) mother's ancestors on her father's side came from Daretorp in the county of Skaraborg near Tidaholm. They were living in Daretorp, in an area of about 8 times 8 kilometers for over two hundred years till about 1880. This is why I have been interested in getting to know Daretor and the people that are living there now.

Våffeldagen
Jungfru Marie bebådelsedag => Vårfrudagen =>Våffeldagen
The day of Annunciation of the Blessed Virgin Mary
That day March 25, in Sweden, used to be called "Vårfrudagen (our wifes day)", which was a holiday, after the name of Our Lady of the Blessed Virgin Mary. "Vårfrudagen" has by tradition been reshaped to "våffel" (waffle), which gave rise to the custom of eating waffles on this day. Waffle days is therefore still on March 25, despite the Church's weekend days moved to a Sunday.
