The day of Annunciation of the Blessed Virgin Mary
That day March 25, in Sweden, used to be called "Vårfrudagen (our wifes day)", which was a holiday, after the name of Our Lady of the Blessed Virgin Mary. "Vårfrudagen" has by tradition been reshaped to "våffel" (waffle), which gave rise to the custom of eating waffles on this day. Waffle days is therefore still on March 25, despite the Church's weekend days moved to a Sunday.
